Our method

How we get AI to name your business.

AI visibility isn't a gamble or a trick. It's a measurable process: know how AI decides, track on repeat, break down every answer and only do what demonstrably works. This is how GeoReady works, and why it's different from a one-off check in ChatGPT.

4AI modelsvia the official APIs, web search on

1 · How AI decides

AI doesn't choose. AI repeats what the web says.

An AI model has no opinion on HVAC contractors or accountants. When a customer asks a question, the model searches the web, reads a handful of sources and summarizes which businesses they mention most often and most positively. If you're in those sources, you're in the answer. If you're not, you don't exist.

How an AI answer comes together
1 · The question“Which heat pump installer should I hire in Northern Virginia?”commercial · non-branded · US
2 · AI searches the web🔍 heat pump installer northern virginia🔍 best heat pump installer reviews🔍 compare heat pump installers
3 · Reads the sources
heatpumpcompass.com · comparisonyou’re missing
hvacfinderguide.com · directoryyou’re missing
trustpilot.com · reviewsyou’re in it
northfieldheatingair.com · own siteyou’re in it
4 · The answer“These installers are often well reviewed in 2026: Summit Climate Co., Northfield Heating & Air and Redwood…”Only businesses that appear in the sources it read get mentioned. The order follows how often and how positively the sources mention them.
Sources over your own siteAI trusts what others say about you more than what you say yourself. Comparison sites, directories, media and reviews carry the most weight.
Repetition and consensusThe more often the same name with the same description appears in trusted places, the more certain the model is that you're the answer.
Literal answersAI cites pages that answer the question directly, with numbers and terms. ‘Welcome to our website’ gets skipped.
Different per modelChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude search differently and read different sources. You can win on one model and be invisible on another.
2 · Why one check tells you nothing

Quickly checking ChatGPT yourself? That's not tracking.

Ask the same question three times and you get three answers. AI models aren't deterministic: the order shifts, a name drops out, another one appears. See yourself once, and you think you're fine. Miss yourself once, and you think all is lost. Neither is true.

A probability, not a snapshotGeoReady tracks every prompt on repeat and reports your win rate: the share of answers that mention you.
Same conditions, every timeA clean session, without your history or location, in your customer's country and language. That makes measurements comparable over time and across businesses.
Trend over positionOnly after a few weeks of tracking do you see whether you're rising or falling. That's the number you steer on, not today's position.
Spot checks in the real appsEvery week we compare a sample with the consumer versions, so tracking stays close to what your customer sees.

One answer tells you nothing: on Wednesday you were missing, on Friday you were on top. That’s why GeoReady tracks repeatedly and reports a win rate, not a snapshot.
3 · How GeoReady works

Five steps. Every week again.

From the right questions to proven effect. All automatic, all traceable to a real answer.

1PromptsThe questions your customers ask: suggested from your website and market, added to by you. With and without your name, across three intents.
2TrackingThree times a week, on four AI models, with web search on and no history. Every answer stored word for word.
3BreakdownFrom every answer: which businesses, in what order, from which sources, in what tone. With the source sentence as proof.
4ScoreVisibility, share of voice, position and sentiment in one number from 0 to 100, with four bands and a trend.
5Actions and effectWhat to do, sorted by expected effect. Thirty days after ‘done’ we measure what it delivered.

Step 1 · Prompts

The right questions are half the work.

Track the wrong questions, and you steer on the wrong numbers. A good set covers the whole customer journey and both sides of your name. We suggest 30 to 50 prompts from your business profile; you add what you hear from customers.

  • Three intents. Informational (‘how much does a heat pump cost’), commercial (‘best installer in Northern Virginia’) and transactional (‘request a quote’). Each intent calls for different content.
  • Branded and non-branded. With your name, you see what AI knows about you. Without your name is the real test: there, AI has to name you on its own. Only those count toward your win rate.
  • Topics. Grouped by theme, you see at a glance where you win and where you're still invisible. Pick one topic a month to win on.
  • AI search queries. We also store which search terms the model itself used before it answered. Use those terms in your content.
Step 2 · Tracking

Same question, same conditions, every time.

Every prompt goes through the official integrations to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, with web search on, in a clean session, in your country and language. The full answer is stored, including the sources the model cited.

Fixed tracking daysMonday, Wednesday and Friday, always at the same time. Daily tracking is available as an option; ‘Run now’ works anytime.
Precision optionEvery prompt runs several times per measurement, so your win rate gets more stable. Useful when you're close to a competitor.
New modelsWe add new models as soon as they matter.
Nothing influencedWe only ask public questions and store public answers. We don't steer the models; you improve through the actions.

Step 3 · Breakdown

Every answer taken apart. Nothing by gut feel.

A fixed rubric pulls from every answer which businesses are named and in what order, which sources are cited and whether the tone is positive, neutral or negative. Every classification gets a confidence score and the literal sentence as proof. Uncertain cases are marked as such and you correct them yourself; that counts right away.

MentionsYour business, competitors and new names, recognized by name, alias and domain.
PositionNamed first, second or third. The first name is the one the customer remembers.
CitationsEvery URL the model cites, counted per domain, per page and per AI model.
SentimentPositive, neutral or negative, with theme (price, wait time, service) and source sentence.
Step 4 · The GeoReady score

One number that tells you where you stand.

Four metrics weighted into one score from 0 to 100. Four bands give it meaning: invisible (0–24), present (25–49), leading (50–74) and dominant (75–100). Every action shows how many points it's expected to earn you.

Step 5 · Actions and effect

Expected up front. Measured after. So you know what works.

Every action gets an expected effect in points: the gap in win rate between you and your top-scoring competitor on the prompts the action is about. Thirty days after ‘done’ we compare the win rate before and after. That's how you learn which actions work in your market, and which don't.

Knowledge · the six levers

Six things that decide whether AI names you.

Every action GeoReady suggests comes from these six. Know them, and you understand every number in your dashboard.

01Be on the websites AI pulls its answers fromAI doesn't invent businesses. It searches the web and repeats what comparison sites, industry directories, media and review sites already say. If you're not there, you don't exist for AI. This is almost always the biggest lever. In the app: Sources
02Answer the questions your competitors win todayAI cites pages that answer the question literally: prices, terms, step-by-step guides, experiences. If a competitor has that page and you don't, they win that prompt every time.In the app: My Website
03Let AI read your websiteChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude read your site with their own crawlers. If your robots.txt blocks one, or your site is slow or has no sitemap, that model can't cite you, no matter how good your pages are.In the app: My Website
04Be one clear, consistent nameAI links mentions to an entity. If one site calls you ‘Northfield Heating & Air’ and another ‘NHA Mechanical LLC’, AI counts you as two half businesses. Consistency makes you recognizable and trustworthy. In the app: Business profile
05Make sure what AI says about you is right, and positiveAI summarizes reviews, forums and news. One recurring complaint shows up in every answer, even if it was fixed long ago. Correct the story at the source, and you change the answer. In the app: Sentiment
06Own the questions your customers actually askYou only win on prompts you track. The right set, with and without your name, shows where you already win, where you're close and where you're still invisible. That's where you focus. In the app: Prompts
GEO vs. SEO

SEO makes you findable. GEO makes you the answer.

SEO optimizes pages for a list of ten links. GEO makes sure the sources AI trusts mention your name, that AI can read and cite your site, and that what AI says about you is right. A high Google ranking helps, but it's no guarantee: AI reads different pages than Google ranks.Read why GEO is the future →
Questions about the method

How reliable is this?

Another question? Email info@geoready.nl.
Why is the answer different from what I see in ChatGPT myself?+

ChatGPT in your browser uses your history, location and preferences. We track in a clean session, in your country and language, so measurements are comparable over time and across businesses. Every week we spot-check a sample in the consumer versions.

How do you keep one random answer from skewing the picture?+

By tracking on repeat and calculating in probabilities. Win rate is the share of answers that mention you, not a single snapshot. The precision option runs every prompt several times per measurement.

How many prompts do I need for a reliable picture?+

For a local business with a few services, 25 to 50 prompts is enough. More prompts don't make tracking more accurate, but they do give a broader picture: more themes, more regions, more intents.

How fast will I see the effect of an action?+

Technical actions (allowing crawlers, sitemap) often work within two weeks. A new listing on a comparison site or directory usually shows up in answers within two to six weeks. Content needs four to eight weeks. After thirty days you see the first measured effect; after that, it keeps being tracked.

Does GeoReady influence the AI models?+

No. We only ask public questions and store public answers. You improve things yourself, through the actions: sources, content, technical and reputation. That's also the only approach that lasts.

Can I correct the classification?+

Yes. In every chat you can correct a mention or sentiment; that counts toward your numbers right away and helps improve the rubric.

Does this work for B2B or national businesses too?+

Yes. The method is the same; only the prompts differ. For B2B, they're questions like ‘which supplier for X’ or ‘best software for Y’; for national businesses you track without a city name or per region.
